Project Overview

When a notable museum in Columbia, Pa., contacted Houck for support with an HVAC equipment upgrade, our team was tasked with removing the outdated rooftop unit (RTU) curbs and installing new, properly flashed curbs.

While the scope was straightforward, this project required precise execution and timing to ensure the new HVAC system could be installed without delay. Fortunately, our experienced team approached the work with a focus on efficiency, safety, and craftsmanship.

Purpose & Objectives

First and foremost, the museum needed its worn RTU curbs replaced in order to accommodate the updated HVAC equipment and maintain reliable building performance. While this type of curb replacement is typical in the industry, the client’s priority was a smooth, well-coordinated installation that would support the broader mechanical upgrade without disruption.

Our team’s objective was to remove the existing curbs, install new units to current standards, and complete the work on schedule. Close collaboration with the HVAC contractor was essential to keep the project timeline on track.

Scope of Work

  • Demolition and removal of existing, outdated RTU curbs
  • Preparation of roof openings for new curb installation
  • Installation of new HVAC rooftop unit (RTU) curbs
  • Professional flashing and weatherproofing of newly installed curbs
  • Coordination with the mechanical contractor to align with the HVAC upgrade schedule

Our team started by safely demolishing and removing the existing RTU curbs, which were no longer compatible with the upgraded HVAC equipment.

Then, new curbs were installed and professionally flashed to ensure proper weatherproofing and long-term performance. Throughout this process, our team also coordinated closely with the mechanical contractor to align project schedules and maintain momentum.

Due to our extensive experience with roof repairs and maintenance, our team completed the project efficiently and without complications. This not only demonstrates our depth of experience in routine repairs but also in detail-critical installations.

Results

As mentioned before, the project was completed successfully, proceeding according to plan and meeting all necessary timelines. The new RTU curbs were installed on schedule, allowing the HVAC upgrade to move forward without interruption. Fortunately, there were no unexpected challenges, scope changes, or delays during the process.

Overall, the client was satisfied with the outcome and quality of the finished installation. They expressed that their expectations were met and were impressed with our ability to work under the pressure of hard deadlines.
