Location: Hershey, PA
Timeline: Approximately 2 weeks
Services: Brick Masonry Restoration and Repair
Industry: Public Services

Project Overview

The Houck team provided an urgent solution for a popular public library after a vehicle collision caused severe damage. Our extensive experience in masonry allowed us to seamlessly reconstruct the wall and ensure a uniform finish that exceeded the client’s expectations and perfectly blended the repair with the original building.

Purpose & Objectives

When a vehicle impact severely damaged the exterior knee wall of a popular public library in Hershey, PA, Houck was called upon to provide a fast and effective solution.

The collision caused a significant amount of damage, leading to a large portion of the wall to collapse and become displaced. After assessing the damage, Houck determined that a complete teardown of the affected area, including the cracked pier, was necessary before rebuilding.

Initially, sourcing the hard-to-find oversized bricks posed a challenge. However, the team successfully located an almost exact match and was able to rebuild the wall to blend with the existing structure seamlessly.

Scope of Work

  • Demolition of the brick wall destroyed by vehicle impact.
  • Reconstruction from the ground up to match the existing walls.
  • Wash down of rebuilt and existing walls.

Houck resolved the issue by completely rebuilding the wall from the ground up, a solution chosen because it was deemed the most appropriate and effective long-term fix. The team was uniquely qualified for this project due to their extensive experience in masonry repair, which provided the necessary expertise to handle the complexities of the rebuild.

Working to surpass the client’s expectations, Houck distinguished itself from competitors by performing a wash down of not only the rebuilt section but also large areas of the existing wall. This ensured a uniform finish, making the reconstruction virtually unnoticeable and seamlessly blending the section with the surrounding structure.
