The SAFETY FIRST state of mind is fundamental to Houck’s success. Houck makes a continual, conscientious effort to maintain a safe environment for our employees and our customers, their employees and their patrons.

Houck’s comprehensive safety program educates employees, assesses hazards and prevents injuries. Our efforts have been recognized by our insurance carriers, OSHA and its affiliates (MOSH, VOSH), the American Subcontractors Association, Keystone Builders Contractors Association and our industry peers.

Our commitment to safety is visible in our safety rating, which demonstrates the effectiveness and success of our safety program in reducing accidents and maintaining a safe environment for all involved.

Houck’s employee safety training includes:

  • Drug testing
  • Formal safety orientation and training for all new employees
  • Supervisory training, including 30-hour OSHA certification
  • Field training, including 10-hour OSHA certification
  • CERTA training for all required personnel
  • Training in hazard recognition and regulations
  • Job-specific training
  • Company-wide safety training and reviews
  • Pre-job planning for job site safety
  • Weekly on-site “tool box” discussions
  • Team approach to keeping workers safe
  • Safety reward and recognition program

Houck’s on-site safety measures include:

  • Adherence to all federal, state and local safety regulations
  • Analysis of customer’s safety needs and requirements during a project
  • On-site safety inspections by safety director, trained superintendents and/or project operations personnel
  • Analysis and use of approved personal protective equipment
  • Current, safe equipment and procedures
  • On-site Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
