Waterproofing Project - Virginia

Overview:
Following a $105 million renovation, persistent leaks plagued the recently installed skylight.

Details:
The skylight is fabricated from cast concrete, granite and translucent jade with colored glass blocks between the concrete spokes. Micro-fractures were allowing water to seep through the concrete into public areas. Houck’s restoration craftsmen milled the concrete spokes and carefully installed an elastomeric waterproofing system to eliminate further leaks. Houck also replaced 19 damaged glass blocks.
