Lighthouse
Coating Systems Project - Maryland
Overview:
This historic lighthouse was built and manned in 1825. It is one of just four lighthouses of that era that is still in service.
Details:
The Houck team traveled daily to the lighthouse by boat. New safety procedures were necessary due to the location and the fact that the project was located three miles from shore. Workers were required to wear life preservers, harnesses and lanyards, and maintain a life raft on site at all times. Workers remained on site for 12-hour shifts. This required careful planning to ensure that all materials and equipment were on site for the day. The solvent-based coating material was applied in three separate applications.
